about

Count to Six - The mind goes to some funny places when your world starts falling apart. I somehow came out of it with a bunch of upbeat songs. Except for maybe this one. I figured making this album would be a good way to show my kids how to make it through a tough manage. There's also the numbers subtext, which shows its face in the 6/4 time I wrote this rhyme in.

Interludes - Some hot 11's. And a bunch of E's.

Run Around - As a kid growing up in the 80's, my favourite rhyme was "I Go To Work" by Kool Moe Dee. I've often thought of doing a cover of it, but using a few lines of it for a hook seemed way more possible. One of my favourite people, Vibe Richards aka Rick Vibes, provided the final touches to the track.

Innovative - That Pharoah Monche line from "Bring It On" was probably the best single bar in rap up until that point. I wanted the rhyme to last longer, so I extended it.

Take a Seat (even) - In 2013, me and the homie Speed Dial 7 dropped "The Last Pile of Snow in the City". It's hard to play tracks live with someone when they're on the other side of the world, so I reworked a couple of those verses for live shows. It turned into this. It's like a part two, so it's even.

I Don't Participate in the Process - Literally the least you can do. A protest song, even if it is in a passive way. Exploring both not being a part of something when it's beyond fixing and not giving up on something until it's actually at that point.

Busy Bee - John Smith is still the best rapper. We both loved this beat so much, we had to go Busy Bee on it, just having fun. Joe's "I'm Bad" flow takes this one.

You Can Find Me - If Hunnicutt was on this, I coulda had a song with Farm Fresh. After hearing this mcenroe verse (so dope I had to bite it for my verse) I started working on a joint album with him, then stole this and Veterans Day for my album. Plus, Pip Skid's still the illest.

A Tough Manage - Just when things can't get any tougher, then they do...that's a tough manage.

Veterans Day - If you could learn from the people who were doing what you're doing before you were doing it, then why wouldn't you do that? Also, Rob Crooks. And the layers to this beat. Jesus, (oh) my god!

Even Out - Problem solvers. Milch and Allegra, Turn the Gun, and still.

Of Another Time - When you're just not living by the same rules everyone else is following. And if you're keeping count, Birdapres killed me on my own album for the second time in a row.

For Kaden, Aiyanna, Aubrey and the people that have been there for me when I needed it. Thanks to mcenroe for making such incredible, complex, breathing beats and putting in the work to make this album happen. And to the contributors on this album; beyond being crew and among of the best MCs in Canada for years, these are my closest friends and some of the greatest people I know. It was fun making this record.
